The short answer
Everything on this page answers one of two questions, and they are not interchangeable. Liposuction removes fat from where it sits badly. A lift removes loose skin. If your skin is good and the fat is stubborn, liposuction alone will do it. If the skin is loose — after pregnancy, after significant weight loss — liposuction alone makes it looser, and the operation you actually need is a lift.
Liposuction is not a weight loss operation. Safe single-session removal is measured in a few litres, the scales barely move, and surgeons who take far more are taking a real risk with you rather than giving you better value. If weight is the problem, the operations on our weight loss surgery page are the honest answer and these are what comes afterwards.
BMI is part of the answer rather than a formality. Above roughly 32 to 35 most surgeons here will decline abdominoplasty, because wound healing and clot risk climb steeply. Losing weight first is not us putting you off; it is the difference between a good result and a wound that takes months.
Which operation answers which problem
Loose skin and separated muscle after pregnancy, usually with an overhang
Tummy tuck — the muscle repair is the half people forget, and it is what flattens the abdomen.
A small amount of loose skin below the navel only
Mini tummy tuck. Shorter scar, no muscle repair, and a smaller result honestly described.
Stubborn fat with good skin tone
Liposuction, priced by the number of areas treated rather than by litres.
Abdomen, breasts and often liposuction together after children
Mommy makeover — one anaesthetic and one recovery instead of three trips.
A skin apron left after major weight loss, sagging sideways as well as down
Fleur-de-lis tummy tuck. It adds a vertical scar, and it is the only way to take width out.
Upper arms: loose skin after weight loss
Arm lift. If the skin is good and the complaint is bulk, arm liposuction instead — different operation, different scar, different price.
Inner thighs rubbing or sagging
Thigh lift, which has the most demanding scar position of the group and needs honest expectations.
Flat or shapeless buttocks
Brazilian butt lift where there is fat to transfer, implants where there is not.
Buttocks too large or out of proportion
Buttock reduction — the operation nobody advertises and some people actually need.
The pubic area after weight loss or a previous tummy tuck
Mons pubis liposuction or lift, commonly combined with abdominoplasty rather than done alone.

Liposuction is not a weight loss operation
Fat removed by liposuction weighs very little relative to its volume. Someone can lose two full dress sizes from the waist and find the scales moved by three kilos. If a quote implies otherwise, or if an operation is being sold on a kilo figure, that is marketing rather than surgery.
There is also a safety ceiling. Guidelines put large-volume liposuction at around five litres of aspirate in one session, and beyond that fluid shifts and clot risk become the dominant problem. A surgeon offering to take “everything” in one sitting is offering you the risk, not a saving.
The fat that remains behaves normally afterwards: gain weight and it gets bigger, in the areas that were not treated more visibly than before. The result holds if your weight holds.
The muscle repair is what makes a tummy tuck work
Pregnancy separates the two columns of the abdominal wall, and no amount of training closes a true separation. A full abdominoplasty stitches them back together, which is why the abdomen flattens rather than just losing a flap of skin.
It is also why the recovery is longer than people assume. Those stitches are under tension for six weeks: no lifting, no core work, no picking up a toddler, and a stooped posture for the first week. Anyone planning this around small children needs help at home arranged before they fly, and we will ask about it.
The scar runs hip to hip, low enough to sit under underwear, and the navel is remade. Both are permanent.
Drains, garments and the first two weeks
- Drains are usual after abdominoplasty and arm or thigh lifts, and they come out before you fly — that is why these are eight to ten night plans rather than five.
- A compression garment is worn day and night for four to six weeks. It is not optional; it is what decides how the skin settles onto the new shape.
- Swelling peaks around day three to five, then falls over six to eight weeks. The result you judge at two weeks is not the result.
- Walking from day one, short and frequent, is the single most effective thing you do against clots. Sitting still with your legs down is the thing to avoid, including on the flight home.
- Final shape at three months for liposuction, six for a tummy tuck, and the scar carries on fading for a year or more after that.
What the package covers and what it does not
The quoted figure covers the operation in a hospital theatre, the anaesthetist and pre-operative tests, hospital nights, hotel nights for the rest of the stay, private transfers, the first compression garment, drain removal and dressing changes, a fit-to-fly report and remote photograph follow-up for twelve months.
Flights are separate. Travel insurance that names elective surgery abroad is separate and genuinely necessary. A second garment, and any revision later, are their own costs.
Questions people ask
How long do I stay in Turkey for a tummy tuck?
Eight to ten nights: two in hospital, the rest in the hotel, with drains removed and a fit-to-fly check before you travel. Liposuction alone is shorter, around five to six nights.
Can I have liposuction instead of a tummy tuck?
Only if your skin will retract, and after pregnancy it usually will not. Liposuction under loose skin empties the bag without shrinking it. We ask for standing photographs for exactly this judgement, and if the answer is a tummy tuck we will tell you that rather than sell you the cheaper operation twice.
How much weight will I lose?
Very little, and that is the wrong measure for these operations. Expect a change in shape and in how clothes fit. If the goal is weight, bariatric surgery is the operation that does it, and body contouring is what tidies up afterwards — usually twelve to eighteen months after the weight has stabilised.
When can I fly, work and train again?
Flying after drains are out and we have signed a fit-to-fly report. Desk work about two weeks after a tummy tuck, one after liposuction. Light cardio at four to six weeks, nothing loading the core or the arms before six.
Is a mommy makeover safe as one operation?
Within limits, yes, and those limits are about anaesthetic time rather than cost. Abdominoplasty with a breast procedure is routine. Adding extensive liposuction and a third and fourth area pushes the operation past where the risk of clots and poor healing starts to climb, and we will propose two stages instead of agreeing to everything at once.
