What Mommy Makeover involves
Pregnancy and breastfeeding change the body in a predictable pattern: the abdominal muscles separate and the skin stretches below the navel, the breasts lose volume and drop, and fat settles at the flanks and thighs. A mommy makeover treats these together in one operation — a tummy tuck with muscle repair, a breast procedure (lift, implants or both), and liposuction of two areas — with one anaesthetic and one recovery instead of three.
The breast component is chosen to the problem: deflated but not drooping breasts get implants; drooping breasts with good volume get a lift; drooping and deflated breasts get a lift with implants. The abdominal component is almost always a full tummy tuck because muscle separation after pregnancy runs the full length; a mini tuck is chosen only when the photos show the problem is confined to below the navel. The two liposuction areas are usually the flanks and either the thighs or the back.
What it is not: it is not the answer while you are still planning children — pregnancy will undo the muscle repair and stretch the breasts again — and it is not a weight-loss operation. The best results come at a stable weight, at least six months after the last breastfeeding, in a woman who has finished her family. Combining operations also means the surgeon limits total operating time for safety; very large combinations are staged.

Who it suits — and who it does not
Good candidates

Techniques and options
Full tummy tuck with muscle repair and flank liposuction
The core of the makeover. Skin and fat between navel and pubis removed, rectus muscles stitched together along the full length, navel repositioned, flanks contoured with liposuction. See the Tummy Tuck page for detail.
Breast augmentation
For deflated breasts with the nipple still above the fold: silicone implants, usually under the muscle, through a fold incision. See Breast Augmentation.
Breast lift, with or without implants

Liposuction of two areas
Typically the flanks plus one further area — outer thighs, inner thighs, back or arms — treated with laser- or power-assisted liposuction through 3–4 mm ports.
Sequencing and safety
Breast surgery is usually done first, then the abdomen, then liposuction. Total operating time is kept within a safe limit (most surgeons cap combined cosmetic procedures at around six hours), anti-clotting measures are strict, and three hospital nights are built in. If your wishes exceed what is safe in one session, the surgeon stages them.
What happens on surgery day

Assessment before travel: photos of the abdomen standing and bending, and of the breasts from the front and sides; weight, pregnancies, breastfeeding dates, previous abdominal surgery and what you want from each area. The surgeon proposes the exact combination and whether it fits in one session.
- 2
Admission the day before or morning of surgery. Blood tests, ECG, chest X-ray if indicated, anaesthetic review; compression stockings and an anti-clotting injection.

Markings standing up: breast plan and implant size with sizers, tummy tuck incision placed to your underwear line, liposuction areas.
- 4
Under general anaesthesia: breast procedure first, then liposuction of the flanks, then the tummy tuck with muscle repair, then any remaining liposuction. Drains for the abdomen and, if a lift, sometimes the breasts.

Compression garment and surgical bra fitted in theatre. Three nights in hospital: walking with assistance from the first evening, pain relief through a drip then tablets, drain and wound care, anti-clotting injections.

Discharge to the hotel on day 3, walking slightly bent. Clinic visits for drain removal (days 4–8), wound checks and the fit-to-fly report.
Recovery timeline
Days 0–3 (hospital)
Tightness across the abdomen and chest; pain controlled with intravenous then oral medication. Short walks slightly bent. Sleep with head and knees raised.
Days 4–10 (hotel)
Drains out, wound checks, garment and bra day and night. Standing straight becomes comfortable towards the end of the stay. Fit-to-fly report.
Weeks 2–3
Desk work from week 3. Swelling of the abdomen and high, firm breasts are normal. No lifting — this includes children.
Weeks 4–6
Garment and bra continue; gentle walking. Implants begin to settle; breast shape softens.
Weeks 6–8
Cleared for exercise, starting low-impact; core work last. Lifting children from 6 weeks. Garment stops at 6 weeks; no underwire until 3 months.
Months 3–18
Final contour by 3–6 months as swelling clears and implants settle. Scars fade over 12–18 months with silicone and sun protection.
Results — and their limits
A flat abdomen with a repaired muscle wall, a defined waist, and breasts restored in position and volume — the pre-pregnancy silhouette, or better, in a single recovery.
Durable provided weight stays stable and there are no further pregnancies. Implants are not lifetime devices and may need attention in later years; the abdominal result is long-lasting.
Scars are permanent: a low abdominal scar hidden by underwear, a navel scar, and breast scars that depend on the procedure. All fade substantially over 12–18 months.
Because two or three procedures are combined, the chance of needing a small revision somewhere — a dog ear, a scar, an implant adjustment — is higher than for any single operation; this is discussed at 6–12 months.

Risks and how they are managed
Every operation carries risk. These are the ones that matter for this procedure, and what is done to reduce, spot or treat each.
Blood clots (DVT / pulmonary embolism)
The most important risk of combined surgery. Compression stockings, anti-clotting injections through the stay and sometimes after, early walking, capped operating time, and no flight before the fit-to-fly check. Tell us about previous clots, the pill or HRT.
Wound-healing problems along the abdominal incision
Non-smoking, controlled blood sugar, a flexed posture for the first week, moderate tension.
Seroma
Drains, quilting sutures where used, compression garment, limited activity; drained with a needle if it forms.
Breast complications
Capsular contracture, implant malposition, nipple sensation change or nipple blood-supply issues with a lift — managed as on the individual breast pages.
Bleeding, haematoma, infection
Stopping blood thinners, antibiotic cover, drains, three nights of observation and prompt review of one-sided swelling.
Anaesthetic risk of a longer operation
Full pre-operative assessment, a consultant anaesthetist, warming and monitoring throughout, and staging if the planned combination is too long.
Numbness
Expected across the lower abdomen and around the breasts for months; most recovers.
Asymmetry or contour irregularity

How to compare this with a quote at home

How to prepare
- 1.Send photos of the abdomen standing and bending forward and of the breasts from the front and sides, with your weight, pregnancy and breastfeeding history and what you want from each area.
- 2.Finish your family; be at least 6 months past breastfeeding; hold a stable weight for 6 months.
- 3.Stop smoking and all nicotine 4 weeks before and after. Stop aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and herbal supplements 14 days before; discuss the pill or HRT with the clinic.
- 4.Bring the underwear you want the abdominal scar hidden by, a soft non-wired bra, front-fastening tops, slip-on shoes and a small pillow for the seatbelt.
- 5.Arrange 10 nights in Turkey, 3 weeks off desk work, 6–8 weeks off heavy work, and help with children and lifting for at least 2 weeks after you return.
Aftercare at home
- •Walk slightly bent for the first week, then straighten. Sleep with head and knees raised for 2–3 weeks; do not sleep on your front for 6 weeks.
