What Arm Liposuction involves
Arm liposuction removes the fat that thickens the upper arm — the fullness that makes sleeves tight and hides the shape of the arm — through tiny ports, without the long scar of an arm lift. It suits arms where the skin still has tone: after fat is removed, the skin retracts over the new, slimmer contour. Laser- or power-assisted techniques help both by breaking up the fibrous fat of the arm and, in the case of laser, by encouraging the skin to tighten.
The decision between liposuction and an arm lift is about skin, not fat. Pinch the upper arm: if the skin springs back and the fullness is firm, liposuction alone will give a good result. If the skin hangs in a fold that stays when pinched, removing fat alone will leave it looser, and an arm lift — with its scar — is the operation that works. The surgeon makes this call from your photos and confirms at consultation.
What it does not do: it does not tighten significantly loose skin, it does not build muscle, and it removes a contour, not weight. Circumferential treatment of the whole upper arm, including the back and the area near the armpit, is what gives a natural result; treating the underside alone leaves the arm looking blocky.

Techniques and options
Tumescent infiltration
A dilute solution of local anaesthetic and adrenaline is infiltrated into the fat first, which numbs the area, shrinks blood vessels and firms the fat for even removal. It is the reason bruising is limited and blood loss minimal.
Laser-assisted liposuction
A fine laser fibre melts fat before suction and heats the underside of the skin, which stimulates some tightening over the following months. Useful on the arms, where mild laxity is common, but not a substitute for an arm lift when skin hangs.
Power-assisted liposuction
A vibrating cannula passes through fibrous arm fat with less effort and trauma, giving a smoother result and quicker recovery. Often combined with laser.
Circumferential approach
Through ports at the elbow crease and near the armpit, the whole upper arm is treated — underside, back and outer surface — with feathering into the shoulder and forearm so there is no step. This is what makes the arm look naturally slim rather than hollowed on one side.
Compression
Compression sleeves worn for 4–6 weeks control swelling and help the skin settle evenly onto the new contour.
What happens on surgery day

Assessment before travel: photos of the arms from the front and back, relaxed and raised, and the pinch test described. The surgeon confirms liposuction alone is appropriate and whether laser assistance is planned.

Admission on the morning of surgery after fasting. Blood tests and anaesthetic review. Markings standing with the arms raised.

Under general anaesthesia or sedation, tumescent fluid is infiltrated, then laser or power-assisted liposuction through 3 mm ports. Each arm is compared to the other and the contour feathered into the shoulder and forearm.

Ports are closed with a single stitch or left open to drain. Compression sleeves are fitted in theatre.

Recovery timeline
Days 1–3
Bruising, swelling and soreness like a heavy workout; fluid leaks from the ports for 24–48 hours, which is normal. Regular painkillers, sleeves at all times, arms raised when resting.
Days 4–7
Showers from day 2–3 with sleeves removed briefly. Desk work resumes. Fit-to-fly check.
Weeks 2–3
Bruising fades; arms feel firm and slightly lumpy as the tissue heals — normal. Light cardio from week 2.
Weeks 4–6
Sleeves stop at 4–6 weeks. Full exercise including upper-body training. Numbness resolving.
Months 3–6
Final contour at 3 months; skin continues to retract until about 6 months with laser assistance.
Results — and their limits
Slimmer, better-defined upper arms with sleeves that fit and a shape that reads as toned. Port scars fade to dots.
Fat cells removed do not return; remaining fat can enlarge with weight gain, so the result depends on stable weight.
Skin tightening from laser assistance is modest and takes months. If the skin was borderline, some looseness may remain and an arm lift can be considered later.
Small irregularities in the first months are normal and smooth out with massage and time.
