What Mons Pubis Lift with Liposuction involves
After large weight loss, or with age, the mons pubis can drop: the skin and fat over the pubic bone descend, the mound sits lower than it should, hangs over the genitals and can interfere with hygiene, intimacy and clothing. Liposuction alone cannot fix this because the problem is skin, not just fat. A mons lift removes the excess skin through a low horizontal incision at the bikini line, thins the tissue with liposuction, and suspends the remaining mons to the abdominal wall so it sits at its natural height and stays there.
The operation is often done as part of a tummy tuck — the abdominal incision is simply extended and the mons lifted at the same time — because a flat abdomen above a dropped mons looks wrong. It is also done alone for patients who have had a tummy tuck elsewhere without the mons addressed, or whose only concern is the pubic area. When done alone the scar is short and sits where underwear covers it.
What it does not do: it does not treat the labia (labiaplasty is separate, though the two can be combined), it does not change the pubic bone, and if the mons is merely full rather than dropped, liposuction alone is the better and smaller procedure. The consultation photos, standing, make the distinction clear.
Scars: A horizontal scar low across the pubic area at the bikini line, often continuous with a tummy tuck scar
Who it suits — and who it does not
Good candidates
- ✓A mons that has dropped and hangs after weight loss, with loose skin that folds
- ✓Functional problems — hygiene, chafing, difficulty with intimacy — caused by the overhang
- ✓A previous tummy tuck that left the mons low relative to the flattened abdomen
- ✓Stable weight for 6 months, non-smoker, good general health
- ✓Realistic about a bikini-line scar
Usually advised against
- –A full but firm mons with taut skin — liposuction alone
- –Weight still changing
- –Smokers unwilling to stop; the incision needs good blood supply
- –Active skin infection in the area until treated
Techniques and options
Skin excision and suspension
A horizontal ellipse of skin and fat is removed from the upper mons at the bikini line. The remaining mons tissue is then anchored with permanent sutures to the fascia of the abdominal wall so it is lifted and held at its natural position — this suspension is what prevents the mons from dropping again.
Liposuction of the mons
Before excision, the mons is thinned with gentle liposuction so that the lifted tissue is not bulky and the transition to the abdomen is smooth.
Combined with tummy tuck
When done with an abdominoplasty, the same low incision serves both, the mons is lifted with the abdominal flap and suspended, and no additional scar is needed. This is the most common way the operation is performed.
Combined with labiaplasty
If the labia majora are also loose or enlarged, they can be reduced in the same session. Planned individually.
Closure and compression
Layered closure with dissolving sutures; a compression garment or firm underwear for 4 weeks to control swelling in an area that swells readily.
What happens on surgery day
- 1
Assessment before travel: photos of the lower abdomen and pubic area standing, from the front and side, showing whether the mons hangs. The surgeon confirms a lift is needed and whether it should be combined with a tummy tuck.
- 2
Admission on the morning of surgery after fasting. Blood tests, ECG and anaesthetic review. Markings standing up, with the scar placed at your underwear line.
- 3
Under general anaesthesia, liposuction of the mons, excision of the skin ellipse, suspension to the abdominal wall and layered closure.
- 4
Compression fitted. One night in hospital for comfort and observation.
- 5
Discharge the next morning. Clinic visit at day 2–3 for a wound check and the fit-to-fly confirmation.
Recovery timeline
Days 1–3
Swelling and bruising of the pubic area, tightness at the incision; soreness controlled with regular painkillers. Compression, gentle walking, pelvis elevated when resting.
Days 4–7
Showers from day 2–3 with the incision protected. Desk work resumes. Swelling into the labia is expected and settles.
Weeks 2–4
Bruising fades; incision healing. Compression continues. Light exercise from week 2–3.
Weeks 4–6
Compression stops. Full exercise. Sexual activity when comfortable, usually from week 4–6.
Months 2–12
Final contour at 2–3 months; scar fades over 12 months with silicone and sun protection.
Results — and their limits
A mons that sits at its natural height, no longer hangs, and forms a smooth plane with the lower abdomen. Hygiene, comfort and confidence improve.
The suspension holds the mons in position; with stable weight the result is long-lasting.
The scar sits at the bikini line, hidden by underwear and swimwear, and fades over 12 months.
Swelling in this area takes 6–12 weeks to clear; judge the result at 3 months.
When it is final: Swelling settles over 6–12 weeks; scar matures over 12 months
Risks and how they are managed
Every operation carries risk. These are the ones that matter for this procedure, and what is done to reduce, spot or treat each.
Prolonged swelling, including into the labia
Expected to some degree; compression, elevation and time.
Wound-healing delay at the incision
Non-smoking, moderate tension, keeping the area clean and dry; small openings heal with dressings.
Scar widening or visibility
Bikini-line placement, layered closure, silicone from week 3, sun protection.
Over-lifting — a mons pulled too high or the labia distorted upward
Prevented by conservative excision and careful suspension; the surgeon checks position on the table.
Numbness of the mons
Common for months; usually resolves. Clitoral sensation is not affected by the mons lift.
Seroma, infection
Compression, antibiotic cover, prompt review of swelling or redness.
Recurrence of drooping
Suspension to the abdominal wall is the protection; significant weight gain can stretch it.

How to compare this with a quote at home
Ask any clinic for the same list: surgeon and anaesthetist fees, hospital nights, tests, medication, garments or splints, follow-up visits. A cheaper headline price usually excludes several of these. Then add your flights and insurance to our price for a like-for-like comparison.
How to prepare
- 1.Send photos of the lower abdomen and pubic area standing, from the front and side, and describe the functional problems the overhang causes.
- 2.Hold a stable weight for 6 months. Stop smoking 4 weeks before and after; stop aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and supplements that increase bleeding 14 days before.
- 3.Trim rather than shave the pubic hair a few days before.
- 4.Bring the underwear you want the scar hidden by, loose trousers and firm supportive underwear; arrange 3 nights in Turkey and 5–7 days off desk work.
Aftercare at home
- •Compression garment or firm underwear day and night for 4 weeks.
- •Elevate the pelvis when resting for the first week.
- •Keep the incision clean and dry; showers from day 2–3; no baths, pools or sea for 4 weeks.
- •No lifting over 5 kg for 3 weeks; walking daily; exercise from week 4.
- •Silicone on the scar from week 3 for 3–6 months; sun protection for a year.
- •Report increasing pain, spreading redness, wound opening, fever or one-sided swelling. Photos at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months.
